Our History in San Miguel
and the Napa Valley
Our ballooning history goes back to the 1970′s in the Napa Valley. The Kimball Family discovered San Miguel de Allende in 1993 when Jay and his daughter Gretchen Kimball arrived as guests at Casa Sierra Nevada. They had been invited come and fly here and explore the area as a potential location for ballooning. Now with more then 20 years of experience flying locally, Globo San Miguel offers the best flight in town!

Jay Kimbal – Owner
Jay Kimball was one of the first pioneers of commercial ballooning in Mexico all will agree that Jay took ballooning to "new heights". Jay started one of the original balloon companies in Napa Valley in 1976. He is the adventure balloon pilot who pioneered many special locations for new balloon companies throughout California. He is one of the most knowledgeable and experienced pilots in the world today and has all the stories to prove it!
Gretchen Kimball – Owner
Gretchen Is a second generation Pilot with a lifetime of experience and 20 years as a commercial Pilot. She has traveled extensively and flown in many of these locations. Gretchen's experience in ballooning compliments her devotion to Painting and Landscape Design. She completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2005 at the San Francisco Art Institute. Gretchen loves flying with our clients, and adding her unique spirit of adventure to each flight.
Hot Air Ballooning has been one of the most sowed out activity around the world since the late 70´s. Napa Valley Aloft and San Miguel Aloft are sister Hot Air Balloon adventure Companies with some of the best Hot Air Balloon pilots in the world. All of our aircraft and pilots are FAA certified complying with the worlds highest standards in safety and regulation in the world. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is the national aviation authority of the United States of America. An agency of the U.S. Department of Transportation, it has authority to regulate and oversee all aspects of American civil aviation. The Federal Aviation Act of 1958 created the organization under the name "Federal Aviation Agency", and adopted its current name in 1966 when it became a part of the United States Department of Transportation.
